Some varieties of Asian pears are ethylene producers (Do not store or transport ethylene-sensitive items with commodities that produce ethylene.)Odor-sensitive (Do not store or transport odor-sensitive items with commodities that produce odors.) Moderately sensitive to freezing injury. (Likely to suffer injury by one light freezing.)


Very crispy, firm and mildly sweet, there are hundreds of varieties of Asian pears grown. Skin colors can range from pale yellow to sandy medium brown. They are excellent sliced and added into salads, served with cheese or to make sorbet, juice or purees from. The flesh is ivory, very crispy and the shape of the fruit is (generally) round, hence the nickname “apple pears”. They are known to be very juicy.
